eBay vs Paypal Customer support: Dramatic differences
68Recently I have had the experience of interacting with ebay and paypal's customer support in detail. It is crazy the difference that there is with their support. As far as I know both of these companies are owned by the same parent company or whatnot.
eBay customer support is the WORST. First of all it is pretty well impossible to talk to anyone on the telephone. As far as I can tell they do everything through email and live support. The site says they will respond in 24-48 hours. I sent more than one message to them in this way and never got a response. I even contacted live support to follow up on it and they said they would get to me and never did. Their live support is friendly, but minimally helpful. I swear that they could just hire someone to be friendly and use canned responses. You cannot get these people to talk to you on the phone. They basically direct you to their contact forms and pass the buck. I must admit though, I did get help reversing some eBay fees with someone in their billing department through live support. It can be frustrating though when you cannot talk to a human and people ignore your mail. I suggest that eBay has a ton of room to improve when it comes to customer support. I find they way it is implemented right now as pathetic for such a big company.
Paypal's customer support is a different world. You can call them on the phone through a wide time range 7 days a week. You call, enter a pin number, and normally have a short wait. You have minimal number pushing to get an agent on the line and once you have someone on, you need only state your full name. Granted sometimes you can get a bad seed at paypal, that has no clue what is going on and wants to pass the buck. More times than not though, you will get a helpful paypal agent that is in no hurry and will try to help you in a timely manner. There is little room for improvement as far as paypal is concerned. At most they could probably do with weeding out some of the bad seeds.
This is my personal experience from recently, yours may vary. Has anyone else had anything similar to this happen to them?
