Review of Eve Online: A very underrated MMORPG

It Really is like Being in Space!

Eve Online takes place in space and has thousands of solar systems, making it virtually impossible to see everything eve has to offer. In order to explore space you must train into one of hundreds of specialized ships. If you like big money numbers, this is the game for you as eve has a vibrant player based economy. All players of Eve are on the same server, so this makes for a more realistic gaming experience. With combat you can choose from a variety of missiles, lasers, railguns, and even hybrid weapons.

Skill training is time based and each skill can go to level 5. There are hundreds of skill books that you can buy and all characters can eventually train all skills. The only real grind in Eve is for ingame money called ISK. You can even trade ingame ISK for characters and free game time from other players.

Almost all items ingame can be broken down into base components and used for manufacturing and industry. To manufacture items you need a blueprint and the required components. In combat against NPC's you get bounties in the form of isk, as well as loot from the wrecked ships. To travel long distances your ship has an autopilot feature, but beware of using autopilot in dangerous regions.

Each solar system has a security level, making it either high security, low security, or no security. In high security areas there is a high level or protection and non-consensual PvP is virtually non-existant. In low security you run more risk of being attacked and in no security anything goes. The lower the security level the more ISK there is to make. Most systems have asteroid belts and there is a lot of ISK that can be made by mining these for their minerals.

Sometime eve can be a bit lonely as it is such a big game world. One thing to help promote social interaction is the ability to create corporations, which are a lot like guilds in other MMORPGS. Corporations can make their own rules and even take tax from members when they run missions and get large bounties from killing pirates. Corporations can declare war on eachother and are a valuable networking tool.

When compared to a lot of other online games Eve seems to have a good forum community to help players new and old. Eve costs just under $15 a month to play, free yearly expansions, and even has a 14 day free trial available. I believe that Eve Online is one of the better games out there and is highly underrated. Eve has something to offer for almost anyone from the casual gamer to the power gamer. They have 2 different clients for high end computers as well as mid end. If you are tired of the traditional hack and slash MMORPGS that are available today, you should consider giving Eve Online a try.

I found the whole eve client and game to have some real gamestopping bugs since there last dominion patch. £ months on and alot of issues not only not address but being dealt with akin to sweeping them under a carpet and going lalalallala.

When they handle a known issue with a response like the one below I cant but help feel that they lost a subscription or so in the process:

Hi,

I have closed this petition as we can't give you any further advice on a fix for this. I hope you continue to enjoy EVE.

Best regards,

The skill training is a big plus for EVE. The grind on a lot of other games - I'm looking at WoW here - means it can be hard to progress for a casual player. With EVE, because the skills continue to train when you're logged off, it's possible to build up a decent character and have some fun in the game without spending all your spare time logged on, grinding away.
