Eve Online: How to start off on the right foot.

Eve Online can be a harsh place to start out as a noob. One thing that you can do to make it easier on yourself is take your time and be patient. In time you will get the skills you need to be the best at what you do.
If you plan on playing Eve Online long term, train only a few basic skills to get yourself into a basic ship or industry. Once you get those basic skills you can now start making ISK. Now work on getting your basic learning skills to level 5. Once they are to level 5, you will want to get your advanced learning skills to level 4. The time invested into training this skills on a main character will break even within 1 year of playing.
As a new player in eve you will hunger for more ISK so you can buy skills and better equipment. One good way to make ISK early on is by mining in asteroid belts. First find a system that is not too crowded. There are many ways that you can mine, so find a way that works for you. I advise getting setup so that you can pilot an industrial ship and a ship to mine that supports multiple mining lasers. Mine and jettison your minerals into the same can. Once you get a full industrial worth of minerals warp to your station and get the industrial. Grab the minerals real quick, put them in the station, and repeat.
Another way of making ISK, that may not be as boring for some people is by mission running. You might want to get into a nice frigate and start running level 1 combat missions. Remember you can loot items and salvage from wrecks, which add up over time. You also get bounties and mission rewards. It will take some time grinding out level one missions but eventually when you get to level 3 and 4 missions you will be making a good amount of ISK.
If mission running and mining does not interest you, consider making aliving by trading and hauling. Basically buy low and sell high. There is a lot of ISK to be made if you have ISK to invest and research prices between regions.
As a noob you should most likely stay in high security space until you learn more about the game and get some skills and isk under your belt. Remember there is a risk vs reward factor in eve. Try to avoid PVP early on.
As far as corporations go be careful that you don't get over taxed. There are a 0% tax corps and NPC corps. Personally if you are paying more than 10% tax in a high security corp you are getting ripped off. Remember that is 10% of most bounties and mission rewards you are losing. Corps can be a good thing if social interaction is what you desire.
I advise a frigate for level 1 missions. Cruiser for level 2 missions. Battlecruiser for level 3 missions. Battleship for level 4 missions.

The tip to look at mission running is a great one - not only does it teach how things work in EVE (but giving you a mix of combat/hauling missions) but you can also quickly earn a decent amount of ISK. The storyline agents you get give you a big standing boost each time you work with them, and that can quickly push you to the higher level, higher paying missions.
I just started playing EVE and it's rather overwhelming. Thanks for the tips!
Can u get the 21 day free trial anytime or u have to do it when u 1st start out? im thinking of starting it real soon

I also found out, almost by accident, that there are plenty of Corps out there willing to readily take newbs into the corp and run Lvl 4 missions with them. They take down all the mission ships, and you clean up with a hauler and tractor beams. I made more ISK in 2 days than I did playing for months sharing loot wreckage. So, it is advisable that new players seeks out a corporation not only with low tax, but that is willing to just hand you free stuff.
